β‘οΈ Our trip to Washington DC was prompted, aka REQUIRED, because one of my college sons is studying abroad next semester and needed to go to an embassy in one of 5 cities...NY, Boston, Chicago, LA or DC. We had to make a decision on which city to visit without fully knowing the date. Huh? |
Yes, we were told to choose a city to travel to during December near the holidays without knowing the date. But one location, DC had the date of Dec 15. And since I used to live in the suburbs of DC and spent a lot of my teenage hours exploring it on the metro (see photo...btw hasn't changed at all including the ticketing since then!) I figured DC would be the easiest to get in/out. Well, best laid plans... Our appointment was at 3 pm. Our plane was scheduled to leave at 7:20 am for a less-than-3-hour-flight. Easy, right? Nope. Plane taxied out to take off and then returned due to technical issues that over the next hour could not be resolved. They took us all off the plane to "look for another plane". <--I have lived long enough to not have a ton of hope for that plan. NO OTHER PLANES ON ANY AIRLINE from Dallas to DC's TWO airports would get us there on time. They found us a plane that took off 3 hours later than our scheduled time. We arrived and got to the embassy appointment with 8 minutes to spare. We felt like we had just won the Amazing Race. You Will Love TheseOur embassy appointment took less than 10 minutes once we were actually there. We went to our hotel, ate a quick meal (it had been since a very early breakfast that we had eaten) and then both crashed mid-afternoon...our naps turned into night and we didn't get up until morning! It was funny because in the middle of the rush to get to our appointment, it hadn't occurred to us that we were tired. But as soon as we had achieved our goals, the stress hit us! P.S. If your kids love NERF darts, this is a holiday gift idea that will keep giving all year long! {Giggle} 2800 Lakeside Parkway, Unit 201, Flower Mound, TX 75022 |
